Learn How Our Small Group Math Coaching Works
Two or three students from the same class can schedule small group coaching sessions. These groups can give students a deeper understanding of classroom material and a chance to detect and fill in gaps in their knowledge. Small group coaching is also more economical per student.
Groups of two to five students from the same class can also schedule one or more review sessions to work on problems in preparation for an upcoming exam. Techniques and content will be reviewed during the process of working on actual problems.
Fees for two-student private coaching are:
- $65.42+$4.58 sales tax = $70/hr ($35/student)
Note: Each one-hour session includes 5 minutes of transition time at the beginning and at the end with 50 minutes of instruction.
Cancellation policy:
If a student cancels or misses more than two sessions during the semester (that I cannot fill with other students), the student will be charged for that missed or cancelled session.
Programs
All Things Math llc offers individual and small group coaching to help all students achieve their best in mathematics. We know that one size does not fit all and that different students respond to different teaching methods. Most of all, we know that an effective math coach must have:
- A love of mathematics.
- A passion for teaching.
- A broad understanding of the mathematics curriculum.
- Extensive teaching experience.
- A continuous, informal assessment process that is used during each coaching session.
- Experience in presenting math concepts in a variety of ways to help motivate students and keep them engaged in the learning process.
- A deep understanding of the math concepts that precede and follow the course they are teaching.
At All Things Math llc we work with students, parents and (with permission) teachers to develop clear goals. Together, we formulate a plan to reach those goals. During each session we use multiple tools to assess:
- How a student is approaching a particular task or problem.
- Opportunities for connections or enrichment.
- Gaps in the student’s knowledge.
- Why a student might be experiencing difficulties.
We also help students:
- Become confident, independent and self-sufficient learners of mathematics.
- Develop more organized and effective study habits.
- Understand the role of mathematics in their futures.
Ongoing communication with students, parents, and families is one key to our success. Also, with parental permission, we are willing to meet with a student’s classroom teacher to further improve the coaching process.

Dr. Cohen offers instruction in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB/BC, Multi-Variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics.
During individual sessions,
Dr. Sara Cohen works with each student to create a program tailored to his or her unique learning needs. We welcome not only students who are struggling with new math concepts but also students who simply want enrichment programming. One-on-one sessions are aligned with the student’s school curriculum and use the student’s current textbook.
There are many benefits to individual coaching. One-on-one sessions address a student’s particular learning style and create an environment where students can confidently ask questions. Students can progress more rapidly with individual coaching and can explore mathematical concepts on a deeper level.
One-on-one student learning also offers many opportunities to develop good study and organizational habits.

- Two students $35 per student per hour
- Three students $30 per student per hour
- Four students $25 per student per hour
- Five students $20 per student per hour

PSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE, GED, PCAT, Praxis
Individual and Small Group Review and Practice
All Things Math llc provides test review and practice for the math portions of the PSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE, PCAT and Praxis. We emphasize individual or small group instruction.
All Things Math llc can help students do their best on standardized tests in several ways. We can:
- Help students review and refresh material that is on the exam.
- Teach test taking skills.
- Help students become more comfortable with the examination experience.
Our structured reviews provide accountability and feedback to help students stay focused and motivated.
Timed Practice Exams
Throughout the year we periodically offer opportunities for students to take a practice test for the mathematics portion of the SAT. Practicing under test conditions helps students become familiar with the testing process and can help reduce anxiety on the actual test day. Practice testing is offered at the All Things Math llc center on selected Sunday afternoons.
The program reviews and refreshes key topics common to the AB and BC exams. Students taking the BC exam may schedule additional sessions to review topics that are specific to the BC exam. The program will also provide practice for both the multiple choice and free response sections.
Space is limited to five students per group.
Summer Programs - Get excited. Get ready. Get ahead.
Students often lose math skills during the vacation months. All Things Math llc offers several programs to combat the “summer slide.” Our summer programs are short math adventures in which students explore various math topics. These experiences help build the foundation for future success in mathematics.
All Things Math llc bases its instructional methods on the latest recommendations of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the new Common Core State Standards.
Topics in Algebra
Topics in Algebra allows students to review previously covered topics or get-ahead for the upcoming year. Each week, a selected topic is covered. Students meet four days a week for a total of 6 hours.

Summer Math Attack
The average student loses 2 to 3 months of math progress during the summer. All Things Math llc helps students fight the “summer slide” and even move ahead. Our programs are short math adventures in which students explore multiple important topics and build the foundation for success in mathematics. We base our instruction on the latest recommendations of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the new Common Core State Standards.
Summer Math Attack features very small groups and a comprehensive review of topics to help students refresh old skills, fill in gaps, and learn new concepts. We use fun, hands-on, and challenging activities to improve students’ problem-solving abilities. Our goals are to nurture higher-level thinking, cooperative problem solving, and the self-confidence that comes from better understanding.

Enrichment Workshops for Students
These workshops offer interesting learning opportunities for students who want to broaden their mathematics experiences and sharpen their critical thinking skills. Workshops are offered throughout the year.
Workshop topics include:
- The Mathematics of Voting.
- Snowflakes and Fractals.
- Taxicab Geometry.
- The Odd World of Algebraic Topology.
- Origami Polyhedra.
Success in High School and College Math
This workshop is offered periodically throughout the year. The program explores what students must do to learn mathematics and why they need to do it. This program contains practical suggestions to help all students succeed in their classes. It is designed not only for students who sometimes struggle in math but also for students who are doing well and want to learn more about how to build math understanding.
Parents and Math Workshops
Parents have many opportunities to help their children succeed in math. The Parents and Math Program helps parents take advantage of these opportunities and gives parents the tools to assist the math education process. We offer hands-on workshops to help parents blend mathematics lessons into the home from the earliest days of childhood onward. Other workshops help parents understand what their children will be learning, understand the goals of the math curriculum and understand how parental attitudes can promote their student’s math success. Many of these workshops can also be useful for after-school caretakers and day care providers.
Individual workshop topics include:
- Far Beyond Counting – Math for ages 1–5.
- Exploring Math Through Literature.
- Math Manipulatives.
- Math Games for the Elementary Student.
- The Goals of Middle School Math.
- Preparing the High School Student for College.

Family Math Night Fun
These evenings are designed for students and parents to explore mathematics together through games, puzzles and more. Students and parents work together to solve puzzles, create art or play games based on math concepts. Our activities aim to stimulate imagination and thinking skills.

After School Girls’ Math Club
This math club meets monthly beginning every September and running throughout the school year. The club is for girls in grades 3–5 who want to challenge themselves in math. Many students entering grades 3–5 are enthusiastic about mathematics. However, during these grades some students also begin to lose interest in math. Like our Summer Explorers Program, our club activities are designed to be fun, educational and especially inspiring. Our activities help to connect mathematics to science, literature, writing and the arts.
